Sathya Sai School - Newcastle

The Sathya Sai International Organisation, South Africa(SSIO-SA), North Coast Region, Kwa Zulu Natal (Kzn), Service Activity (Seva) at The Sathya Sai School, Newcastle, On 21 July 2018.

The North Coast Region of the SSIOSA was tasked with undertaking the maintenance and repairs to Block A of the Newcastle Sathya Sai School. On the 21st July 2018, it was a very early start for the 16 Sai Devotees (sevadals) many of them leaving Durban by 02H00 to meet at the Nandi Drive parking location on the N2 Highway to travel in convoy to the Newcastle School around 03H30. On the way at Moor River, the temperatures started to drop and reached as low as minus 2 degrees. It was a bitterly cold drive all the way to Newcastle. On arrival at Newcastle, the sevadals were treated to a warm breakfast by the Ladies Wing of the Newcastle Sai Centre and thereafter all the sevadals proceeded straight into the Seva Project as planned.

The sevadals split into 3 groups: – Painting of Classroom Ceilings; Repairs and painting of the Roof and installation of Gutters. On inspection the sevadals found sections of the roof were rusting. This now required the rust to be first removed, primer to be coated and thereafter painting. As the day wore on, it became considerably warmer and working on the roof was proving to be a bit of a challenge. However, the team braved the conditions to ensure that most of the work was completed within the short timeframe they had at their disposal. The Ladies Wing also provided a sumptuous hot lunch which was relished by the sevadals!

As time drew closer for the sevadals to make the long trek back to Durban, it was most pleasing to note that all of the classroom ceilings were painted; one part of the roof completed;and also one part of the gutters had been put up. The balance of the work was now left safely in the hands of an outsourced contractor selected by the project team and paid for by the Devotees who undertook this seva project.

Despite not being able to finish all of the tasks within the one day every sevadal left with a sense of accomplishment and joy as being Swami’s hand picked ‘Love Instruments ‘ to be a part of this amazing Seva Project. The team left Newcastle around 5pm – reaching home safely closer to 10pm that evening with All of Swami’s Love and Grace.

"The main objective of the Sathya Sai Organization ... is to help you recognize the divinity inherent in you. So, your duty is to emphasize the One, to experience the One in all you do or speak. Do not give importance to differences of religion, sect, status, or color. Have the feeling of one-ness permeate all your acts. Only those who do so have a place in this Organization; the rest can withdraw."
